Research

Lizzy is currently researching attitudes about alcohol in America. While this research occasionally involves trips to the pubs, she spends most of her time reading and writing. Here are a few of the links that she has found helpful, including two authored by participants in her documentary Happy Hour.

Here Instead — Professor Harry Levine's electronic Library

Dr. Harry Levine, Professor of Sociology at Queens College, is one of the foremost scholars on the failure of the war against drugs. His earlier work dealt primarily with the Temperance movements of the 17th and 18th centuries and the development of ideas about addiction. He's an amazing scholar and an amazing person. This is his place on the web to put his work and things that interest him. There's some very interesting stuff, including his own publications. Dr. Levine appears in my documentary, Happy Hour.

Alcohol Problems and Solutions — Professor David Hanson's website

This is an extensive resource involving articles, facts, and commentary about alcohol in America. Dr. Hanson, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at SUNY Potsdam, is a prolific authority on alcohol in America, and his research appears everywhere from text books to the nightly news. Besides being a truly nice guy, David Hanson is a smart and creative man who created this website after being frustrated with inaccurate and misleading media concerning drinking in America. Dr. Hanson also appears in my documentary Happy Hour.

The National Campaign To Enhance Alcohol Consumption (NCEAC)

Funny and informative. The Author, Bruce Clifton, is an intellectual and a lover of booze. I hope someone says that about me someday…
